( 'The Tank' ).

Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway
and later
The Great Central Railway
In January 1923 most of the Railways in Great Britain were formed into four large Railway companies, known as the 'BIG FOUR'
The four newly formed companies were named
London, Midland & Scottish Railway .. ( LMSR )
London & North Eastern Railway .. ( LNER )
Great Western Railway .. ( GWR )
Southern Railway .. ( SR )
The Great Central Railway became part of the LNER which was the second largest company of the Big Four
